A Canadian in Burkina Faso in West Africa has been found dead, 2 days after he was abducted. Kirk Woodman, originally from Halifax, was kidnapped by a dozen gunmen at a mining site owned by the Vancouver-based company Progress Minerals. Woodman worked in the mining industry for more than 30 years and joined Progress Minerals 18 months ago.

Police have charged Constable Yannick Frechette with sexual assault and voyeurism after an incident in December. Reports say a woman was sexually assaulted at a party held at the home of another RCMP officer. Frechette works with the Meteghan detachment and has been suspended with pay.

Nova Scotia has launched a new tax credit aimed at motivating more investment in startup companies and small businesses. The innovation equity tax credit will apply to investments of up to $250,000, which is $200,000 more than the current equity tax credit. Finance Minister Karen Casey says the goal is to encourage investment that can drive growth and help competitiveness.
