A Cape Breton music legend is recovering from a freak gardening accident that has left him blinded in one eye.
But the recent mishap won’t stop Matt Minglewood, who’s 72 now, from taking the stage this Sunday evening at this weekend’s Ribfest in Sydney.
Last Thursday Matt was helping his wife Barbara out in the garden and tripped on old bronze statue, Matt reached out to stop his fall and grabbed hold of a concrete fountain which toppled with him. Both went sprawling into a bush which had many dead sticks protruding from it. He suffered many facial lacerations which required stitches but will heal. Not so his eye. He’s lost permanent vision in the left eye.
The incident happened a week ago today, July 4th.
The doctor has given the go-ahead for the rest of Minglewood’s gigs, a good thing since this is one of his busiest times of the year.
Babs says Matt’s a trooper!
Matt tweeted out: @MattMinglewood:
“After a freak accident I have lost vision in my left eye. Staying positive. Future shows are still ago and we are looking forward to a busy summer of rockin’ the blues.”
Get well Matt and keep rockin’ the blues, we love ya!
