40 years ago yesterday in 1980 Terry Fox began the Marathon of Hope in St. John’s, Newfoundland at Mile Zero.
I remember hearing it on the radio when Terry arrived off the Newfoundland ferry in North Sydney when he arrived in Nova Scotia.
When he came through Halifax, he was still struggling to get the word out, Tony’s Pizza has a cool pic of Terry running down Robie Street.
Over the years I’ve had the chance to interview Terry’s mom Betty, plus brothers Fred and Darrell Fox who was on the Marathon of Hope with Terry.
The Fox family marked the April 12th anniversary yesterday with a family run/walk.
To date, over $750 million has been raised worldwide for cancer research in Terry’s name through the annual Terry Fox Run, held across Canada and around the world.
Our 21 year old son Trent is a cancer survivor and is a big supporter of the annual Halifax Terry Fox Run.
Hope to see you in September at the 40th Terry Fox Run!
-Ian
