Unicorn Floatie. (Splashifax)
An inflatable water park featuring a giant unicorn floatie will not be coming to Lower Sackville after all.
Splashifax had been considering opening the floating playground on the shores of First Lake, by the Sackville Arena.
District 15 Councillor Paul Russell confirmed the news on Twitter on Wednesday night, saying there were some challenges with the project, including issues related to zoning.
The HRM zoning for that end of the lake allows for “recreation” uses and excludes “commercial recreation.”
During a public information meeting last month, Russell outlined details for the project and identified it as a for-profit company that might not meet that requirement
The project was also met with some pushback from the community with a local resident starting a petition citing public safety, increased traffic, aesthetics, and the environment as concerns. It has garnered over 500 signatures.
In a Facebook post, Splashifax says the COVID-19 restrictions have given the group time to find the ideal location for the floating playground.
They’re now in discussions with a few private and public community partners, including Lake Echo District Park.
