Blue Mountain Birch Cove Lakes is on a short list of sites across the country for a potential new designation as a National Urban Park. The Government Of Canada is investing $130 million to create a network of these parks.
This spot really is a gem that is so close. It’s only 10 minutes from downtown Haliax.
If you enjoy a swim, fish or paddle, it’s a pretty sweet spot once you finally get to the water. I found that in trip from the 102 to be the longest portage.
Last summer I did the 11km loop canoe trip solo, and had a blast. It was a lot of work with 9 portages, but so worth it.
I came across an old homestead, 3 stashed canoes, some really cool campsites, a lot of deer flies and a wicked memory of an overnight trip that I can’t wait to do again. Probably with a buddy next time.
Here’s the MAP if you’d like to do it yourself.
I also did a video of my trip…you’re welcome to check it out below…I warn you…it’s LONG!!!
