Police patrolling the streets and roads in Truro are now wearing body cameras.
Truro police say when testing them they found an increased feeling of public and officer safety along with increased transparency.
The cams were worn during a four month pilot program last year. They are placed on an officers vest below their badge.
Truro Police Board Chair, Wayne Talbot says, “the use of body worn cameras is an excellent tool to help with accountability and make interactions safer for the officers and the public.”
1) Officers will turn cameras on when arriving at calls for service
2) Officers will inform you that you are being recorded
3) Cameras will stay on during investigations
4) Cameras will be recording when officers are collecting information from members of the public
Halifax is still studying whether to buy body cams for its police force.
Meantime, the Town of Kentville has provided cameras for its officers since 2018.
