Cole Harbour’s Sidney Crosby returned to action on Saturday night making his season debut after undergoing left wrist surgery in early September.
The Pittsburgh Penguins fell 4-2 to the New Jersey Devils, Sid was kept off the scoresheet and had just over 19 minutes of ice time.
Even though it was a loss, it was great to see our local hometown hero back in the game, the NHL is not the same without him.
Back in 2016 when Sidney hosted his second Stanley Cup at Cole Harbour Place, I was fortunate to be able to be back stage.
There was a young man by the name of Robin Drodge from Newfoundland, who was suffering from liver and kidney problems, who’s last wish was to meet Sidney Crosby.
After the festivities on the main stage were over, backstage, I was there to help Robin and his Mother Dianne get him out of his wheel chair and bring him over to Sidney and the Stanley Cup.
Sidney took Robin, who was blind, over to the Stanley Cup and spent a few moments with him taking Robin’s hand and putting it on the Cup so he could touch and feel hockey’s “Holy Grail.”
It was such a classy move by Sid!
Sadly, a few days later, Robin passed away.
It was special to witness the kind gesture that Sid did.
Welcome back Sidney!
