Do you think our country is the best in the world?
Although we have not claimed the top spot yet, a recent survey shows we are closing in on the ranking.
Canada has come in second place for the first time on the 2021 Anholt-Ipsos Nation Brands Index.
The survey ranks 60 countries, based on interviews with thousands of people, according to six different scales including governance, friendliness, culture, and quality of life.
Canada scored high in terms of its immigration policies, governance, culture, and friendliness.
Germany claims top spot
The survey has named Germany as the best country in the world.
It has secured the top spot for the fifth year in a row.
The pollster says Germany received praise for its products, efforts to reduce poverty, and its reputation in sports.
Elsewhere, the United Kingdom fell from second place to fifth. Ipsos says perceptions about friendliness had an impact.
“Conversely, the United Kingdom’s relative reputation weaknesses are on People and Governance – notably on the perceptions of the welcoming nature of its people and protecting the environment,” the survey says.
The United States made gains, moving from 10th place to 8th.
The pollster says its reputation has begun to rebound in the wake of Donald Trump’s presidency.
It adds despite the pandemic, perceptions have been growing more positive in the last year on the country’s policies relating to government, tourism, and immigration as well as investment opportunities.
**The Anholt-Ipsos Nation Brands Index (NBI), collects over 60,000 interviews online in 20-panel countries with adults aged 18 or over each year. Data are weighted to reflect key demographic characteristics including age and gender. Fieldwork was conducted from July through August.**
