If you’re pining for a real Christmas tree this year, the COVID-19 pandemic might put a damper on your plans to deck the halls.
Ikea has posted a message on its website for all of its Canadian stores, including its location in Dartmouth.
The statement says it will not be selling real trees this holiday season.
“Unfortunately, live Christmas trees will not be available to purchase at IKEA Canada stores this holiday season,” Ikea says. “We know live trees have been a much-loved tradition for IKEA and our customers over many years and we sincerely apologize.”
It attributes the move to the pandemic and its continued ‘industry-wide impacts’ on the global supply chain.
Last year, Canada faced a similar problem as more people stayed home to celebrate.
Unfavourable weather conditions over the past few years have also had an impact on the development of Christmas trees, which take around a decade to grow.
