Get your storm chips, store away those Christmas decorations and charge up those cell phones because we’re in for a doozy.
After the rain starts Monday morning, it’s not expected to stop until Wednesday.
Spencer Clements, Meteorologist with Environment Canada, said the storm is going to hit hard.
“The main reason it’s going to be as severe as it is, is because it’s going to be very slow moving,” he said. “Which is going to allow for the period of heavy rain and strong winds to be quite long-lasting.”
He said this storm isn’t a hurricane, so won’t have the split pattern of wind and rain we’ve come to expect in serious storms.
Clements says, instead, the worst wind and rain will come together.
“Out ahead of the centre of the system, we are expecting the heaviest bands of rain to coincide with the strongest winds.”
He said, while the storm is stalled over the province, we could see prolonged winds with gusts up to nearly 100 km/h and as much as 150 mm of rain.
