Tim Houston is heading to Ottawa on Monday for the first time as premier to meet with Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.
The major topics Houston will bring forward include healthcare, climate change, and affordable housing.
“We can do so much more when we work together across both levels of government,” Houston says in a news release. “I welcome the opportunity to meet with Prime Minister Trudeau and discuss solutions to the big challenges, like achieving truly universal mental healthcare. This is one of the first priorities that we want to work with the federal government on.”
He also wants to work with Trudeau on growing Nova Scotia’s population to two million people by 2060.
Houston intends to raise the Atlantic Loop energy grid and propose a partnership on more clean energy projects.
The $5 billion project would see more green energy generated in the province through transmission upgrades on the East Coast.
