A section of Herring Cove Road is shut down on Thursday morning due to a water main break.
Halifax Regional Police are helping to direct traffic around the closure in both directions between Dentith Road and Sussex Street.
They say the issue has caused a large hole in the road.
Drivers can detour via either Sussex Street or Dentith Road to the Old Sambro Road to avoid the closure.
Crews from Halifax Water are working to repair the damage.
