A virtual vigil is planned for Thursday night to honour the life of a young boy who was killed in a shooting in Dartmouth this week.
Preston MLA Angela Simmonds says the vigil is being held to help the grieving community mourn the loss of 8-year-old Lee-Marion (Mar Mar) Cain.
Simmonds says a prayer will be delivered for the family and community as a way to bring peace as they try to recover from the tragedy.
She took to Twitter to express their heartbreak.
“Our community is grieving,” the Tweet says. “Violence has taken another one of our children, and my heart breaks for the family and loved ones of Mar.”
Other community members have also taken to social media to describe the young life that was lost.
In a tweet, anti-violence activist Quentrel Provo says Cain was his cousin.
He describes the 8-year-old as “full of love and life.”
Provo posted a video of the smiling boy on Twitter, exclaiming “peace and love go together.”

Investigators to leave “no stone unturned”
Halifax Regional Police released Cain’s name in an update held on Wednesday.
HRP spokesperson Cst. John MacLeod asked the public for help to solve the homicide.
“We’re leaving no stone unturned,” Macleod says. “We’re using every means available to advance this investigation. We ask anyone with information to please come forward. No matter how small it is, it might be what we need to advance this investigation.”
Officers were called to the area of Windmill Road and Waddell Avenue at around 4 p.m. on Tuesday.
Cain died in hospital after the car he was riding in was hit by gunfire from another. The 26-year-old male driver sustained non-life-threatening injuries.
MacLeod has identified the suspects as two black men driving a burgundy SUV with tinted windows. Investigators do not believe it was a random attack.
The virtual vigil is scheduled to take place from 7 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Thursday.
You can join via Zoom.
