A big day for a 13-year-old Middle Sackville boy whose dreams are coming true thanks to Make-A-Wish Canada.
Spokesperson Janice Beeton tells our newsroom Kyle Miller, who lives with Cystic Fibrosis, has been patiently waiting for his wish to be granted to go to Disney World.
She says the dream had to be paused because of the pandemic.
“Shortly before the pandemic began he shared his wish with us, which was to go to Disney,” Beeton says. “Unfortunately, we had it all booked and planned. He was ready to go, but the pandemic hit, so we did have to cancel his trip at that time.”
She says now the trip can take flight after discussions with international medical experts, who have determined it’s safe to return to Disney World.
Kyle’s parents, two sisters, and his brother will join him on the adventure.
This marks the first International Wish granted in Canada since pandemic restrictions were lifted.
“Disney is open with welcoming arms,” Beeton says. “Kyle is our perfect example of what it means to grant a wish. He’s been waiting patiently. He’s been hoping for Disney. Today is pretty exciting to share with him that we can reschedule and book this trip for him and his family.”
Beeton says the vacation offers a well-deserved break for the family from the daily challenges of living with a disease like CF.
The inherited disorder for which there is no present cure causes severe damage to the lungs, digestive system, and other organs in the body.
Beeton adds this trip will be all about spreading hope and feeling the joy of spending time with loved ones.
“Obviously, living with CF, it’s daily treatment, it’s daily monitoring, he doesn’t get a break from it,” Beeton says. “The family doesn’t get a break from it at all. So even while they’re down in Disney, he won’t get a break from it, but it won’t be top of his mind. He’ll be able to have fun, and CF will be somewhere in the background, but his focus will be on enjoying this time.”
Today marks World Wish Day.
