Halifax Regional Police want you to pick up the phone if you’ve heard shots fired in the city.
The police force launched the new Gun Violence Tip Line on Friday to encourage residents to report violent crimes.
The confidential tip line will be monitored by an investigative team and can be reached 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
“As community members, we are all feeling the impact of these violent incidents that have occurred,” says Chief Dan Kinsella in a news release. “We are exploring every avenue to progress these investigations, and we need help from the community. We hope that providing a more direct and confidential conduit to the investigative team will make people who have information more comfortable with sharing what they know.”
It comes after a rash of shootings in our city over the last several months.
Late last year, 8-year-old Lee-Marion Caine lost his life in a shooting in Dartmouth. Police continue to investigate his death.
The tip line’s number is 902-490-5151.
You can leave an anonymous tip or leave a name and contact number so an investigator can reach out.
“We want to assure citizens that the information they provide is important and all tips will be reviewed and followed up on by a team member,” the news release says. “No piece of information is too small, and it is never too late to come forward with information on violent crime.”
Police remind you to call 911 anytime there is an immediate risk to someone’s safety or property, or if the crime is in progress.
