A new program wants to help you when you see a parking ticket tucked under your car’s wiper blade.
The Halifax Regional Municipality has announced the paid parking ticket forgiveness program will allow you to get out of covering the costs of a fine if you shop locally.
It can be waived if you produce a receipt showing you spent at least $35 within three hours of getting ticketed while parked at a municipal pay station.
“Receipts must show the name and address of the business, date of purchase, and dollar amount. Each receipt can only be used once, and cannot be used by more than one person,” according to the news release. “Only one ticket may be waived per person per week.”
The municipality says the goal is to help local shops with their pandemic recovery.
Private parking garages and off-street lots are not included.
Receipts must be submitted online within five business days after the ticket was issued.
The program runs from June 1st until September 30th.
