You won’t be grabbing your flip-flops to head to two Nova Scotia beaches.
The Halifax Regional Municipality has announced Pleasant Drive Beach at Petpeswick Lake and Birch Cove Beach in Dartmouth are closed to swimming due to high bacteria levels in the water.
Recent test results show the levels exceed Health Canada swimming guidelines.
“Municipal staff regularly test the water quality at all supervised municipal beaches, as well as one unsupervised beach, during the summer months,” a news release says.
The bacteria can be caused by many factors including dogs, birds, wildlife, and high temperatures.
The municipality will let us know when it’s safe to head back for a dip.
Meantime, the municipality announced on Friday Kinap Beach in Porters Lake has reopened.
