The shark tagging crew of OCEARCH were coming this way for another planned event called Expedition Atlantic Canada 2022.
Unfortunately, they have had to cancel.
They write,
‘In the last few months, our team has been working non-stop to prepare our ship for our 44th expedition. After the M/V OCEARCH departed north towards Canada, however, the crew encountered a mechanical issue while underway. Upon further inspection, and with the safety of our crew and scientists in mind, the decision was made to cancel our planned expedition to Atlantic Canada.
Our team was ready to explore this region in more detail, and add to the data we’ve collected previously off Nova Scotia, and we are disappointed we’ll miss this window of opportunity. We are still assessing the ship repairs needed, but anticipate resuming our Western North Atlantic white shark studies later this year in a new location yet to be determined. OCEARCH has completed 43 expeditions across the globe and this is the first time we’ve been forced to cancel an expedition. We greatly appreciate your support as our ship repairs are made, and we will keep you updated as soon as we learn more. We look forward to being back out on the water as soon as possible.’
Stay safe crew, we’ll see ya next time.
