It was really cool to see my old high school hockey team the Memorial Marauders of Sydney Mines and the Horton High Griffins from Wolfville show some great sportsmanship on the weekend.
Due to Saturday’s frigid temperatures, the lights went out just thirty seconds into the game at to Country Arena in Coxheath, a Sydney suburb. The referees sent them to their dressing rooms.
So, the players from both teams decided to get out a speaker and do some Karaoke and sing along to Neil Diamond’s 1969 classic “Sweet Caroline.”
Here’s what it sounded like:
It was just like a Cape Breton Kitchen Party in the rinks halls.
For the record, the game was played later in the day when the light came back and Horton beat Memorial, but the players will have hockey memories now to last a lifetime.
Thanks for putting smiles on our faces on a freezing winters day in Nova Scotia!
