There’s a new way to beat the heat in Halifax for those looking to stay cool this summer.
The Halifax Common’s new aquatic facility is set to open after construction crews started work a year ago. The previous pool and nearby basketball courts have been closed while the new facility is being built.
Along with a new pool and playground, the facility will feature a brand-new pavilion with a performance stage. Bookings for the performance stage will open once the facility does as the city looks to create more outdoor entertainment and recreation space.
City council approved the pool’s construction back in November 2021. The city says that the new facility “will be a significant enhancement for urban aquatics, recreational play, entertainment, and an outdoor oasis for residents to enjoy.”
In addition to being fully accessible, with a sloped- entrance to the pool and gender-neutral changing rooms, officials say the facility will be net zero. Solar panels on the pavilions roof will provide energy for the facility.
