KANA’TA: Canada Day 2023 is an annual celebration that aims to honour the Mi’kma’ki and pan-Indigenous communities with a series of cultural and family-oriented events in both Halifax and Dartmouth.
Start your day with a traditional welcome and blessing led by Elders from the Mi’kmaq community at Foundation Wharf, followed by the Snowbirds air show over the harbour at noon.
Check out East Coast Indigenous artists including Morgan Toney and Joe H Henry followed by traditional drumming and dancing as part of the Mawio’mi cultural demonstration at Founder’s Wharf.
Enjoy all-day music at the Sands at Salter mainstage and licensed area, get your photo taken in a 3/4 scale spitfire or try your hand at the CF18 fighter jet simulator.
In Dartmouth, experience the rhythmic sounds of the 7th annual Canada Day Drumming Celebration hosted by record breaking Canada Day Drumming Halifax (CDD) which will be carrying on the tradition of simultaneous drumming at 3pm on the Dartmouth Sunshine Series Stage in Ferry Terminal Park.
Later in the evening, swing by the ANSMA Canada Day Concert with Arenya, Deves Matswawana, Jupiter Reign and Zamani Folade before heading over to the water’s edge for the return of Halifax’s Canada Day fireworks around 10pm.
