We sadly lost Nova Scotia music icon Bruce Guthro recently at the age of 62.
Bruce’s Celebration of Life was jam packed with talent last Thursday at Centre 200 in Sydney, Nova Scotia as over 4,000 came out to remember the Sydney Mines native.
Some of the featured performers included many of his friends like: Alan Doyle, Gordie Sampson, Jimmy and Heather Rankin, Dave Gunning, plus fellow Sydney Mines neighours: The Bara MacNeils, JP Cormier, Matt Anderson, Adam Baldwin, Kim Dunn, Matt Minglewood and many, many more.
His former bandmates from Runrig made the trip from Scotland to be in attendance.
There were special touching moments when Bruce’s wife Kim and children Jodi and Dylan were on stage.
One of Bruce’s guitars were auctioned off for over $30,000. with total proceeds from the night going to the Cape Breton Cancer Centre on George Street, in Sydney.
Here’s the full video:
I remember meeting Bruce at CKPE-FM “Cape Country” in Sydney at the station I started out at in the mid 1980’s when he’d drop his music off for us to play.
In the early 90’s I remember going to see him play with The Bruce Guthro Band at the old Wildhearts Saloon on Strawberry Hill in Halifax.
