Three new animal recruits have joined the Halifax police force.
Two dogs named Cain and Kron and a horse named Jewelz were sworn in Monday at police headquarters.
Jewelz an 8-year-old Percheron Thoroughbred gelding, was named after six fallen officers and is the only horse serving with HRP.
Cain is a 13-month-old puppy, born in Slovakia who arrived in Halifax in April and worked his first shift September 20, 2023.
Kron is 3-years-old who completed his training last winter.
Also celebrated, was the retirement from the K9 unit, service dog Casey, after a 7-year career. She was born May 10, 2014 in Slovakia and arrived in Halifax in September 2015.
In a statement HRP says “Casey has had many notable achievements throughout her career with Halifax Regional Police’s K-9 Unit, including, successfully locating several missing people, and finding important pieces of evidence. As a career highlight, Casey tracked down and apprehended a suspect involved in the stabbing of one of our Halifax Regional Police members.”
Casey will now be the family pet of Cst. Malcolm, her handler.
