Canada’s biggest night in music is almost here and the city is busy preparing.
HRM says the host committee is making climate action a big priority for the JUNOS, which aligns with our long-term action plan.
First, there will be a climate stage at the Halifax Central Library, powered not only solar, but 10 pedal-powered bicycles.
Bike racks will also be at key venues.
Transportation
To help get around, the host committee is encouraging sustainable transportation.
First, there will be a free hop-on-hop-off JUNO Express shuttle bus between music venues. It will operate between these times:
- Friday, Mar. 22 – 5:30 p.m. to midnight
- Saturday, Mar. 23 – Noon to midnight
- Sunday, Mar. 24 – Noon to midnight
In addition to that, there will be a shuttle service at the Sackville and Portland Hills terminals that will run to downtown Halifax.
It will operate during these times:
- Saturday, Mar. 23 – 3 p.m. to midnight (with the last trip leaving downtown at midnight)
- Sunday, Mar. 24 – 3 p.m. to midnight (with the last trip leaving downtown at midnight)
The Alderney ferry is adding an extra hour to its service.
It will run between Friday, Mar. 22 and Sunday, Mar. 24.
The final trip from the Halifax Ferry Terminal will be departing at 1:30 a.m. each day, and the final trip from Alderney Ferry Terminal will be departing at 1:45 a.m. each day.
Events
In addition to several events, there will be a Block party featuring a bunch of Canadian talent and emerging artists.
It will be at the Foundation North Parking Lot, next to the Waterfront Warehouse.
Doors open at 6 p.m. each night, with the show beginning at 7 p.m. All events are 19+.
- Thursday, Mar. 21: Featuring Classified’s “Welcome to the Maritimes” set featuring David Myles, JRDN and Choclair with more special guests celebrating his catalogue of Canadian hits. The night kicks off with a tribute to Mi’kmaq culture featuring City Natives and Eastern Eagle, followed by PEI’s Joce Reyome, North Preston’s Reeny, and closing with the International Ambassador for DJ Culture – Skratch Bastid.
- Friday, Mar. 22: Five-time JUNO nominee TALK and Breakthrough Group of the Year Nominee Good Kid make their live Halifax debuts – alongside Dizzy and rising star, Nova Scotian alt-pop artist Maggie Andrew.
- Saturday, Mar. 23: We will be closing the JUNO Block Party series with a country-themed night, featuring JUNO nominees James Barker Band, with Tyler Joe Miller, Dave Sampson, SACHA and special guests.
Traffic
There will various interruptions to traffic this weekend before the Awards ceremony at Scotiabank Centre, Sunday evening.
No parking will be permitted in the following areas:
- Argyle Street, from Duke to Prince streets
- Carmichael Street, from Brunswick to Argyle streets
- Market Street, from Carmichael to Prince streets
- Prince Street, from Argyle to Grafton streets
- Argyle Street, from Prince to Sackville streets (4 p.m. to 9 p.m. only)
Police will have traffic barricades at key intersections and a shuttle will be circulating the loop of Market, Sackville, Grafton, and Carmichael streets on Sunday, Mar. 24.
