Congratulations to former Halifax Mooseheads star Jakub Voracek who is retiring from the NHL.
Jake is hanging up the skates after an impressive 1,058 games and 806 points in the NHL featuring stops with the Columbus Blue Jackets and Philadelphia Flyers.
Jake has had an incredible hockey career that included two memorable seasons here in Moose Country between 2006 and 2008 when he wore # 20.
We’ll never forget Jake’s 2008 Triple OT winner in Cape Breton during the playoffs. The pic above hangs in the Mooseheads Wall of Fame in the front office.
I remember at Moose Training Camp in 2006, as the Mooseheads Public Address Announcer, speaking with Jacob asking how he wanted me to pronounce his name.
I said do you want me to say it “Yaw-Coob Vore-ahh-check or Jacob Vore-aw-check?”
He said shyly as a teenager, “Ian, you can call me what ever you like” in his thick Czech accent. So “Jacob Vore-aw-check” it was.

The Mooseheads posted this tribute to Jake HERE.
Thanks for the Moose and NHL memories Jake from Moose Country and happy retirement!
