Halifax will publish some information collected through the rental registry, a place for landlords to register their properties.
City staff previously said the information would not be publicly available, but that they would consider making it available in the future.
“Currently, we are examining the possibilities through our Open Data portal,” wrote Sarah Brannen, a spokesperson for the city, in an emailed statement.
The registry, officially titled the Residential Rental Registry, opened June 12, 2023. Landlords had to register their properties by April 1.
The goal is to create a complete record of available rentals, which would help the city better understand the state of the rental landscape in the city, according to the municipality’s website.
Violations of residential standards are published on the city’s website already, on the open data catalogue.
Brannen said the city will look to use that catalogue to publish information from the rental registry, as well.
“Information shared will not include personal information, however ownership may be considered,” she wrote.
The city doesn’t have a timeline for when the information would be made public, she said.
