Four popular beaches in the Halifax area are now under water advisories due to high bacteria levels.
Swimming is no longer recommended at Rainbow Haven, Clam Harbour or Kinap beaches until further notice.
The advisories will remain in effect for at least a few days until testing results show that the water is safe.
Springfield Lake Beach in Sackville was added to the “swim at your own risk” list earlier this week.
High bacteria levels can be caused by a number of factors, including dogs, birds, wildlife and impacts from climate change, such as high temperatures, lower water levels and recent heavy rainfall.
