Queen B gets no recognition
Morgan Wallen and Post Malone have received all the recognition in the world when it comes to this year’s CMA nominations. Wallen leads the pack this year with a whopping seven nominations. Chris Stapleton and Cody Johnson each received five and Malone along with Lainey Wilson each got four.
As for Beyoncé, nothing, natta, zip. She had one of the biggest country albums this year in ‘Cowboy Carter,’ an album that shot straight to the top of the Billboard 200 and spent 2 weeks at number one. It gave her the record as the first woman and second artist overall to debut her first eight albums at number one. She also became the first black woman to have a number one country album. Texas Hold Em also spent 10 weeks at the top of the Billboard Country Charts, making Beyoncé the first black women to hit that spot.
Despite all this and being eligible for multiple categories, the members of the CMA still didn’t give her a nod.
2016 CMA controversy
Beyoncé performed at the CMA’s back in 2016 and the response from country music fans was mixed. She performed with The Chicks, and was met with some boo’s from the audience as well as hostility and racism online afterwards.
She’s said herself that the genre hasn’t been very welcoming of her, and I’m certain she doesn’t feel the need to be recognized by the academy to justify what she’s accomplished in country music.
