As Halifax Public Library workers enter week three of strike action, talks remain at a standstill.
In a statement to our newsroom last week, management said they will go back to the table when the union is ready.
In a news release Monday, NSUPE says both sides are willing to go back to the table, but neither is offering anything new, so they say bargaining would not be productive.
A key sticking point is fair wages.
The union says they made every effort to come to an agreement, but they believe the “fair” offered by management is still significantly behind what other HRM employees are offered.
In the release, the NSUPE broke down the wage scale in dollar terms:
- Current Wage: $16.45 per hour
- New Wage Scale per HPL’s Offer: $19.89-$22.61 per hour
- New Wage Scale per Union’s Offer: $20.78-$23.52 per hour
Members walked off the job August 26.
