Quite a rescue done by some fishermen in Port Medway. A great white was caught on a buoy…and it was all caught on video. SEE BELOW.
Here’s what happened as posted on NS shark sightings and info
“We encountered a 2nd great white shark today in Port Medway harbour 50 ft from shore. Our neighbour noticed 2 balloon buoys going under and disappearing, then coming up, and then the shark surfaced entangled in the buoys. They called us and we went down to investigate. We contacted MARS in Halifax but they would be hours. The shark breached and tried to get away but couldn’t. We watched almost 2 hours and when he stopped moving, my husband, his brother and my neighbour went on the boat to try and help him. While his brother gaffes the buoys, my husband saw the lifeless massive shark have the rope wrapped around his belly between the dorsal and gills. He reached down, touching the shark he cut the rope and he sank. We thought he had died, then all of a sudden he emerged. He was very confused and kept circling on the surface and coming in around the shore rocks. My husband said he was easily 16 feet. They then took the boat and guided the shark out towards sea, and out of the murky harbour water. My video unfortunately is too long to post, but I have photos of him swimming after he was saved. What an encounter of a lifetime…. Twice!
Here’s the rescue video below, with another video of the shark swimming away further down in the comments HERE.
Here is a video of the crew working to free the great white shark yesterday. Amazing work by the crew! The video of it swimming free is in the comments. As you can see it was caught in a red buoy which is thought to be a crab trap.
