It’s the end of an era here in Moose Country as the Halifax Mooseheads traded their star goalie Mathis Rousseau to the QMJHL’s top team the Moncton Wildcats.
Mathis is second only to Zach Fucale in Mooseheads franchise history with 93 career wins, he’s second to Dany Dallaire in career save percentage at .912 and he finishes his Halifax career third in team history with a 2.74 goals against average.
Just like Zach, Mathis represented Moose Country last year in between the pipes for Team Canada at the World Juniors.
Affectionately called “Rooster” by teammates and fans, we’ll never forget that goalie goal!
Also heading to New Brunswick with Mathis is 19-year-old forward Logan Crosby the pride of Salt Springs, Nova Scotia.
In return the Herd gets fellow overage goalie Jacob Steinman as well as second round draft picks in 2025 and 2026 and a fourth-round pick in 2026.
In a separate trade, the Moose sent a 2025, ninth round pick to the Cape Breton Eagles for 18-year-old forward Callum Aucoin. He’s a native of Hammonds Plains and grew up cheering for the Moose!
Full trade details are HERE.
The next Mooseheads home game is this Thursday, January 9th at 7 when the Drummondville Voltigeurs will be in Moose Country.
Good luck in Moncton to “Rooster” and “Sid” – Mathis and Logan’s nicknames.
