We’re in for a messy mix of weather across the province and it’s forcing some schools to cancel classes or send students home early.
Freezing rain warnings are in place for Halifax, most of the Truro area and all of western Nova Scotia.
Environment Canada is forecasting it could last a few hours before changing to snow, ice pellets and eventually rain.
The timing of the storm will make the afternoon and evening drive home extremely challenging.
School Closures and Early Dismissals
- South Shore, Halifax and Chignecto-Central will dismiss classes early
- All classes for the Annapolis Valley and Tri-Counties are cancelled.
- NSCC Lunenburg Campus closing at 12:00 p.m.
- NSCC Metro Campuses are closing at 12:30 p.m.
Environment Canada’s Ian Hubbard tells us it a little different depending on where you live.
“Snowfall amounts will vary across the province,” Hubbard explains. “Western areas will likely see the least, with just a couple of centimetres. Central areas could get around five centimetres, while northern and eastern areas, including much of Cape Breton will see higher amounts.”
Winter storm warnings are in place for most of Cape Breton with high winds and heavy snow on the way.
Blowing snow will make driving conditions difficult over the next two days before the system passes through.
