RCMP issued a correction Friday morning that the officer did not do a breathalyzer test.
An Amherst police officer is facing a slew of charges including drunk driving after he was arrested at a restaurant in Oxford.
RCMP say it happened around 7:45 p.m., Sunday.
The man had driven to the restaurant, showed signs of impairment.
When they searched him, they found a loaded handgun, that is not used in the police service.
The 42-year is facing these charges:
- Careless Use of Firearm
- Possession of a Prohibited Firearm with Ammunition
- Carrying Concealed Weapon
- Unauthorized Possession of Loaded Firearm
- Unauthorized Possession of Firearm
- Unauthorized Possession of Prohibited Weapon
- Unauthorized Possession in a Motor Vehicle
- Possession of Firearm Knowing its Possession is Unauthorized
- Possession of Ammunition Knowing its Possession is Unauthorized
- Operation While Impaired
- Operation of a Conveyance 80mg% or over
The matter was referred to SiRT which oversaw the investigation.
He is scheduled for court April 14.
