Halifax Council has finally approved a budget for 2025/26.
The operating budget is $1.3 billion and the capital budget is $314 million.
HRM says the residential tax rate will stay put at 0.770 per cent but because property taxes have gone up, the residential tax rate increased by 4.7 per cent.
The average residential and commercial property tax bill is going up by 5.2 per cent.
This means the average single-family home tax bill will increase by $117.
Also approved in the budget was 20 new firefighters, 14 new RCMP officers, $150 million toward the Windsor Street Exchange redevelopment, more youth programs and extending the life of 10 transit buses.
