A 16-year-old boy is facing charges after allegedly making threats to bring weapons to Citadel High School.
Police say the teen was arrested at his home around 3 a.m., Thursday, and a number of weapons and ammunition were seized.
As a result, there was a heavy police presence at the school Thursday, to support students and staff.
It is not believed there is any more threat to the school, and no one else is thought to be involved.
The boy’s identity is protected under a publication ban and was scheduled to appear in youth justice court Thursday facing these charges:
- Possession of a prohibited weapon
- Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
- Uttering threats
- Unsafe storage (ammunition)
At a media conference Thursday afternoon, Chief Don MacLean told reporters that the investigation is complex and in its early stages.
“While it is natural to react to these types of events with fear, I do urge people to also react with compassion. Youth can consider violence as a last resort, when faced with their own struggles,” said MacLean.
MacLean commended the responding officers and investigators for their quick actions that ensured the safety of not only the boy but the community.
