Halifax has earned national attention, ranking fourth on Travel + Leisure’s 2025 list of the best cities in Canada.
The annual list is based on the results of the magazine’s World’s Best Awards survey, where readers rate cities on their sights and landmarks, culture, cuisine, friendliness, shopping, and overall experience.
This year, Halifax stood out for its growing cultural diversity and scenic mix of coastal city life and forested surroundings. One survey respondent described it as “the up-and-coming city in Canada,” while others praised the sense of balance between nature and urban growth.
Halifax was the only city east of Quebec to make the top five.
It followed Quebec City (No. 1), Montreal (No. 2), and Vancouver (No. 3), and landed just ahead of Victoria, B.C. (No. 5).
Travel + Leisure readers have consistently ranked Halifax among their favourites in recent years, reflecting the city’s increasing profile as a destination for visitors seeking arts, history, nature, and a strong sense of place.
