There will be a slew of emergency personnel in the north end of Halifax, Thursday, to simulate an ammonia leak.
According to a news release from Labatt Brewery, it will happen between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m., in and around the Oland Brewery on Agricola Street.
“The simulated ammonia leak will test Labatt’s emergency preparedness response and recovery plans and how the municipality responds,” says the release.
The exercise area, including Russell Street, may be closed to the public.
“At Labatt, we strive to ensure that our brewery runs as safely as possible and to reduce the risk of incidents,” says Labatt.
They say in the event of an actual emergency, the brewery would be working closely with HRM and “relevant provincial agencies” to advise residents to provide “timely updates”, including steps to take, such as possibly sheltering in place.
Additional instructions would also be broadcasted by media and social media outlets.
