Nova Scotians are working through a major cleanup today after a powerful nor’easter brought heavy snow, strong winds and widespread disruptions across the province.
Snow clearing operations are underway across the across the province, where crews continue focusing on main routes, priority sidewalks and trouble spots. Officials are urging residents to avoid non‑essential travel, saying road conditions remain far from ideal.
The Halifax Regional municipality says the winter parking ban will be enforced between 1 a.m. and 6 a.m., and Halifax Transit snow routes remain in effect. Curbside waste collection scheduled for Tuesday has been moved to Saturday.
Most of the province received 15 to 25 centimetres of snow, with parts of the South Shore seeing totals between 25 and 40 centimetres. Gusty winds created blowing and drifting snow, cancelled flights, and led to numerous early school dismissals on Monday.
Most regional centres for education have cancelled classes for the day, as have post-secondary institutions.
Nova Scotia Power continues restoration efforts after outages caused by strong winds, with just under 5,000 customers affected at the peak.
Officials say cleanup and road clearing will continue throughout the day.
