New Brunswick has more than 750 active COVID cases.
Our neighbors reported 233 new infections over the weekend, including a record 140 on Saturday.
There were also six more virus-related deaths.
Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. Jennifer Russell says it’s a reminder we’re still living in a pandemic.
“Through this pandemic we have all learned the hard lesson that we must accept the reality that we are experiencing,” Russell says. “Things will rarely go as we expect and hardly ever as we would like. We are in a dance and it is the COVID-19 virus that calls that tune.”
Contact tracing has linked several gatherings to its spread, especially among unvaccinated people, including hunting parties, prayer groups, birthday parties, funerals, and a backyard wedding.
Russell says limiting those gatherings to 20 as per the mandatory order helps reduce spread and improve contact tracing.
Currently, 80.5 per cent of eligible New Brunswickers are fully vaccinated against COVID-19, and 89.5 per cent have at least one dose.
