Our Breakout Artist for May and June is Mark Ledlin from British Columbia. We will be featuring his latest song called Slower Than You Planned.
Mark is a TikTok sensation, and his debut digital single Drink About Me hit over 2 million streams across all platforms last year. This Vancouver-based artist is truly on the rise. Following a successful pro hockey career in Europe, Mark takes the same intense work ethic to the stage and his songwriting. Last year, Mark signed with AAG Management (owned by Dallas Smith and Billie Jo Aasen) and has since opened for acts like Lainey Wilson, Dallas Smith, and Meghan Patrick and has shared the stage with many of Canada’s top artists.
Last year he released his first EP Cowboys Wear Sneakers Too to great success in the digital world with everything leading to the start of 2024 and his first-ever Radio single!
Talking about the song, Mark states “Sad stories don’t necessarily mean slow tempo or ballad ideas. I wrote the song out of personal experience trying to make someone fall for you in just a short period of time. The song practically wrote itself when all I had to do was look back in the bank of memories of past summer flings. I’d always wished they would just let time run its course and come August we’d go our separate ways with the understanding it’s not going to work out. However, instead of just going through the process of breaking up and healing, they’d have the idea to just break my heart a little.”
The song brings fun energy, a good tempo and pokes fun about letting a summer fling not feel like the end of the world.
We launched our Breakout Artist program in 2022 to help new Canadian artists get some much-needed radio airplay as they work to break through.
