Researchers from Mount Allison have shared that ticks have increased in Canada 150% from 2020 to 2021.
Here in Nova Scotia we are likely to encounter two different types of the little blood sucker.
The dog or wood tick, which is often harmless, and the black legged or deer tick, which can carry lyme disease.
They don’t all carry the disease, but the rate of infection in large parts of the province is 40%.
There is a website to help identify and track ticks that you can see for yourself HERE.
You can also bring ticks found on you to your local pharmacy to check for lyme disease.
Be aware, check everywhere.
