A new high-speed ferry is set to make the commute between Bedford and downtown Halifax, easier, within the next four years.
According to a news release by the Nova Scotia government, the feds will invest $155.7 million, the province $65 million and HRM, more than $38 million to the project.
There will be five electric ferries, two net-zero terminals and a maintenance facility.
One terminal will be at Mill Cove, with the land provided by Build Nova Scotia, the other will replace the ‘aging’ Halifax terminal.
In addition to that, a bridge will be built over the CN rail line in Bedford, so that cars, pedestrians and cyclists can access the Mill cove terminal easier.
Environment and Climate Change Minister Tim Halman, says, on behalf of Public Works Minister Kim Masland, “the project not only addresses traffic in the area but helps plan for future population growth.”
The project is expected to be completed by the 2027-2028 fiscal year.
