Cape Breton’s famous Seal Island Bridge will be closed coming up next week starting May 6th for maintenance.
The bridge is located as you travel on to Boularderie Island coming down off Kelly’s Mountain.
The closure is expected to last for 5 nights.
It will be closed nightly from 10 pm to 6 am for work that is expected to be completed on Saturday, May 11th.
In the event of an emergency they will be able to coordinate and allow the escorted passage of emergency vehicles only.
If the work progresses well, they may not need the Friday night closure.

By the way my father Tom helped build the Seal Island Bridge that opened in 1961. He fell during construction from the first abutment and landed on the pavement breaking his wrists and a knee.
He lived, because I’m typing this right now. 😁
Our son Drake has a tattoo of the Seal Island Bridge in tribute to his Grampy Tom with his Grampy Pat’s truck underneath.

So plan your trip according next week heading to Cape Breton.
