Three new schools will replace several existing buildings in the Halifax area.
The three schools will be in Dartmouth, Armdale and Bedford and hold more than 800 students, but the province has not determined where the schools will go.
Education Minister Becky Druhan wrote in a news release that she was glad more classroom spaces are coming to the area.
“We’ve heard from and listened to parents. Now, with these replacement schools, we are supporting the well-being and success of the next generation of Dartmouth, Armdale and Bedford students,” she wrote.
The province made the announcement Friday morning ahead of a potential election call this weekend.
A pre-primary to Grade 6 school in Armdale will replace the two buildings that make up the John W. Macleod – Fleming Tower School.
A pre-primary to Grade 8 school will replace the Shannon Park Elementary School in Dartmouth.
A pre-primary to Grade 6 school in Bedford would replace the two buildings that make up Sunnyside Elementary, the location on Fort Sackville and Eaglewood Drive.
However, the Department of Public Works will recommend sites for the schools, then HRCE will create “school steering commitees” of parents, people in the community, and school staff to give their thoughts on school designs.
After a long wait, the province finally revealed in September which 4 communities would get new schools.
