Hundreds of toys surround a Christmas tree in the lobby of the Cars R Us building in Lower Sackville for the final day of their annual toy drive.
More and more people keep coming to drop off large bundles of gifts, from race cars to water guns and sets of markers.
The massive event gathers toys for less fortunate families in the community.
They’re accepting any new and unwrapped toys to the 183 Sackville Drive location by 6 p.m. Friday.
Sandi from Scrap Co Atlantic says she’s donated toys for the last six years, but the company has done it even longer.
“We’ve been trying to figure it out for the last couple years, how long it’s been and no one’s really sure. It’s just been going on for feels like forever. But we’re so happy to be able to participate in this,” she said.
She said, at the scrap metal recycling plant, you get to meet a lot of people in the community and what struggles some of them deal with.
“Sometimes you hear about some situations that you like to be able to help with,” she said.
They will also accept non-perishable food, which will go to the Freedom Kitchen and Closet. This year they’re especially looking for:
- cereal
- granola bars
- individually wrapped gold fish crackers
- Teddy Graham crackers
- other kinds of crackers
- jam
- cheese
- brewing coffee
- tea
- peanut butter
- noodle bowls
- canned fruit
- items for seniors
Gary Shea, the owner of the business, has posted several photos on his Facebook page showing just how many gifts they’ve received so far.
