The province’s opposition party says the Tim Houston government is being too secretive.
NDP leader Claudia Chender was referring to recommendations from an environmental racism panel, which aren’t being made public.
Chender says it’s unacceptable, as people living with the harms of environmental racism deserve a path forward.
“How can Nova Scotians possibly know what actions are being taken, or what is being ignored? How can we measure progress if no one knows what the goal was in the first place?” questioned Chender at a news conference on Friday.
After cabinet Thursday, Justice minister Becky Druhan said they appreciate the work of the panel, and they’re moving forward with the recommendations.
She added the file predates her time in the Justice minister role, and wouldn’t provide a reason on why the recommendations won’t be released.
But Druhan says it’s clear changes are needed, and the modernization of the Human Rights Commission will support addressing discrimination across the province.
