A Nova Scotia man has died in the Dominican Republic, while on vacation.
A GoFundMe for Dorian Christian MacDonald says, he passed away suddenly in a drowning accident, June 20th.
According to reports, it was at the Puerto Plata resort town Maimon Bay when he was found dead in the water in the early morning hours.
He was last seen walking on the beach.
The fundraiser says the 38-year-old was more than just a friend.
“He was my brother in every way but blood-and maybe more so than some who share it,” says organizer Tara McKenzie.
McKenzie says they now need to bring him home.
“The painful reality is now facing the unthinkable task is trying to bring him back to Nova Scotia in a timely manner- to his mom, his sisters, his family, his people,” says McKenzie.
She says costs such as flights, international paperwork, a funeral and all the red tape could amount to somewhere between $10,000 and $20,000.
The GoFundMe is asking for $40,000 and has already raised more than $33,000.
