Factory built homes will be coming to Shannon Park, quicker than originally thought.
The federal government announced there will 4,000 built in some select cities across Canada under a $13 billion investment, with Dartmouth making the list.
It is under the new program, Build Canada Homes.
In a statement, Darren Fisher, MP for Dartmouth-Cole Harbour says it is great news and will help more families and individuals find a safe place to call home, sooner.
“Our government is acting with urgency and moving with expediency, and while final details for this phase are still being finalized, I’m thrilled to share that remediation of the land is expected to begin this fall,” says Fisher. “That means we are on track to get shovels in the ground as soon as possible.”
The project is a Canada Lands Company redevelopment. It was originally slated for a minimum of 20 per cent affordable housing, the first two parcels have been purchased, to have 600 affordable units.
Fisher says not only does that make sure the original target will be met, but it also opens the door to develop even more.
“And believe me- I’ll be pushing hard every step of the way. Shannon Park is a generational opportunity to build a complete, thriving new community in Dartmouth, and there’s no time to waste.”
