American talk-show host Jimmy Kimmel returned to ABC Tuesday night.
He was suspended by the network last week for remarks he made about Charlie Kirk’s murderer.
After a lengthy standing ovation, an emotional Kimmel clarified his comments.
“It was never my intention to make light of the murder of a young man, I don’t think there’s anything funny about it,” Kimmel said through tears.
He also thanked his supporters, and those who don’t like his show, but supported his right to share his beliefs anyway.
President Donald Trump welcomed last week’s suspension, Kimmel said Trump celebrates Americans losing their livelihoods because he can’t take a joke.
The network announced Monday that Kimmel would return following ‘thoughtful conversations’ with the host.
“This show is not important, what is important is that we get to live in a country that allows us to have a show like this,” Kimmel went on to say.
Canadian Sarah McLachlan was the musical guest, she recently cancelled performances in support of Kimmel.
