Border agents have seized more than 800 kilograms of suspected cannabis at the Port of Halifax.
The Canadian Border Services Agency says the seizure took place during an export examination on a marine container departing Canada for the United Kingdom.
In a release, CBSA says while agents were inspecting a shipment declared as wire mesh bins, they uncovered four wood crates filled with suspected cannabis.
A total of 1,479 packages of vacuum-sealed dried cannabis were seized, weighing 801.5 kilograms.
The cannabis and evidence has been turned over to the RCMP for investigation.
Although cannabis is legal in Canada, the illicit cross-border movement of cannabis is a serious criminal offence, punishable with imprisonment of up to 5 years under the Customs Act and up to 14 years under the Cannabis Act.
